From the Desk of Pastor Luke
July 3, 2026
When I was 19 years old, I joined a church staff for the first time. Boone UMC was launching a new contemporary service, and I was responsible for helping plan and lead the music. What I didn't expect was that somewhere in those early weeks, I began to feel a deep concern for the spiritual lives of the people in that gym. I found myself thinking about them, praying for them, worrying about them. It took me a while to realize it, but God was calling me to pastoral ministry.
Eighteen years later, I still feel it. That same pull toward people. That same conviction that the local church is God's best instrument for changing the world.
The last seven years have been a meaningful season. I've had the privilege of walking alongside churches across our connection, helping congregations reimagine ministry in a rapidly changing world. But over the last few years, the Holy Spirit began pulling me back to the local church. Back to you.
I am so grateful to be your pastor. To step into this community that has been faithfully worshiping, serving, and loving its neighbors for over a century. I don't arrive with all the answers, but I arrive with genuine curiosity about who Huntersville UMC is, what God has already been doing here, and where the Spirit is inviting us next.
I commit to listen to you, to your stories, your hopes, your questions, and your concerns. I commit to nourish your faith through word, sacrament, and worship. And I commit to lead this church with faithfulness toward its unique calling.
I'm eager to find out, together, what God has in store for us.
With Gratitude,
Luke Edwards
